gatezilla: (There is always hope)
It's been so long since I've posted, everything looks different. Forgive me if this entry is discombobulated.

2012 was not my best year ever. I've felt sort of beaten down by the world. Money issues, car issues, job issues, losing my Maggie. But! There was happiness, too. I got to spend a lot of time with my loved ones. I was in attendance for one friend's beautiful wedding and for another friend's happy graduation. I got to travel a little bit. I worked on my photography skillz and maybe even improved a little. And even during the unhappy times, I have felt loved and supported. That's no small thing.

I read 18 books and 3 novellas. I watched 52 new (to me) movies. I posted 251 photos.

And today is a new day, a new year. A fresh start.

Happy New Year, all!

Breakdown of books and movies, for those who care. )

For [livejournal.com profile] sffan:

You Are a Monster Movie

Nothing makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up like a menacing monster, whether that monster comes from a lab or outer space.

You like horror movies with a lot of action and destruction. Of course you want the good guys to win in the end... but not until many people die first.

You appreciate the creativity involved with imagining the ultimate monster. The idea of an evil that is capable of anything both delights and frights you.

Your favorite movies have a unique take on the definition of monster. You go for movies like Alien, the Mummy, and King Kong.

Emerson. Cod.

Oh, HELL yes!

Why?

WHY?

Because he is awesome.

And he's a badass detective.

Who sometimes hangs out with his equally awesome partners in detectiving, Ned, Chuck and Olive.

And he hits bad guys with shovels.

And he says awesome things like:

"Future Me is saying 'I told you so' all upside your head... but Now Me is standing here quietly."

and:

"In the third grade I did a report on great whites. Discovered we were a lot alike seein' as how we're both misunderstood badasses."

and:

"...honey, you been spurned. And next to the spurned lover, the spurned employee rides shotgun on the Homicide Chuckwagon."

In conclusion: I <3 Emerson Cod.

That is all.

Three random things.

1. I have this in my oven right now and it smells delicious.

2. Mom and I saw Sherlock Holmes yesterday and I loved it and I get the Jude Law love now. Never been a big fan, but I thought he rocked it as Watson. RDJ is a little too awesome for words. And the costumes! Yowza.

3. I've had this little SGA ficlet open in tabs for a couple of months now and I keep reading it because it makes me smile. It's lovely and sweet.
gatezilla: (Let's moon 'em)
China Mieville's King Rat has been on my to-read list for a while now, but maybe I'll take a pass.

Why the Navi Are Making Me Blue

"...computer-generated imagery (CGI) is rotting science fiction from the inside."?

I think I just rolled my eyes so hard that I saw my own brain.

And oh, look. He couldn't manage to shoehorn yet another Tolkien insult into his little article, so he bashed the LotR movies instead. Classy.
